The Belarusian government continues to crack down on protesters who have been calling for free elections for more than two months. The Coordinating Council, the democratic opposition, receives the Sakharov Peace Prize and dedicates this prize to the entire Belarusian people. It is an initiative of courageous people: Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, Svetlana Alexievich, Maryia Kalesnikava, Volha Kavalkova, and Veranika Tsapkala, as well as political and civil society figures such as Siarhei Tsikhanouski, Ales Bialiatski, Siarhei Dyleuski, Stsiapan Putsila, Mikola Statkevich, and many more. Svetlana Tikhanovskaya has fled abroad and Maryia Kalesnikava was sentenced to eleven years in prison.
