Two members of Pussy Riot are arrested during the Winter Olympics in Sochi and released shortly afterwards. Founded in 2011, the feminist punk rock collective from Moscow wear garish clothes and balaclavas during their spontaneous protests. They gained worldwide fame with their performance on February 21, 2012, at the Russian Orthodox Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow. There they performed a “punk prayer” on the altar. Charges of serious violation of public order were subsequently brought against the three members, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Maria Alyokhina, and Yekaterina Samuzevich. They were sentenced to two years in prison.
